My visit to the citadel of Machu Picchu was an unforgettable experience. From the moment I arrived, the beauty and historical significance of the place captivated me.
The trip started early in the morning with a train ride from Cusco to Aguas Calientes, the town that is located at the base of Machu Picchu.
The picturesque tour offered breathtaking views of the Sacred Valley, with its lush vegetation and its flowing rivers. Once in Aguas Calientes, I took a bus that snaked down the steep mountain to the entrance of Machu Picchu.
Upon entering the place, the first glimpse of the ancient citadel was impressive. The fog was slowly dissipating, revealing the majestic ruins against the backdrop of towering green peaks. The air was fresh and pure, which added to the feeling of awe and wonder.
I participated in a guided tour to learn more about the history and importance of Machu Picchu. The guide was knowledgeable and passionate, and shared fascinating stories about the Inca civilization, its architectural prowess and the various theories about the purpose of the citadel.
We explore key areas such as the Temple of the Sun, the Intihuatana stone and the Room of the Three Windows. Each structure exhibited the incredible craftsmanship and ingenuity of the Incas.
One of the highlights of the visit was the walk to the Puerta del Sol (Inti Punku). The trail was challenging but rewarding as it offered panoramic views of Machu Picchu from above.
Being at the Puerta del Sol, I felt a deep connection with the history and spirituality of the place.
